RIPTA E-FARES & E-FAREBOXES
To provide you with the latest technology, our fixed-route buses, trolleys and Flex vehicles are all equipped with electronic (or e-) fareboxes. And while you can still use cash, we offer convenient, easy-to-use e-fares.
You can now buy an electronic 1-Day Pass or 7-Day Pass on board. And, if you don’t have exact change, you can obtain an e-change card on board.
Our brand-new 15 Ride e-Pass along with e-Monthly Passes, and e-RIPTIKs are available at Kennedy Plaza, Shaw’s, Save-A-Lot on Branch Avenue at route 146 and Stop & Shop supermarkets.

The New e-Farebox

The New e-Farebox
How to Use Cash on Board 
- CASH—Feed flat, unfolded bills—$1, $5, $10 & $20 bills only—into bill insertion slot. Insert coins one at a time in coin cup. Only undamaged U.S currency accepted. No pennies accepted. Drivers cannot make change.
- CHANGE CARD--Issued by farebox with$18.50 maximum balance good toward future fares. Not redeemable for cash.
- TRANSFER--Before paying tell driver you want a transfer. Transfer is issued by farebox. Transfer valid for 2 hours from time of purchase. To use, swipe in swipe slot.
- 1-DAY PASS--$5 for 24 hrs. of unlimited bus/trolley rides. Before paying, tell driver you want a 1-Day Pass. To use, swipe in swipe slot.
- 7-Day Pass--$20 for 7 consecutive days of unlimited travel on RIPTA buses, trolleys & Flex vehicles only. Before paying, tell the driver you want a 7-Day Pass. To use, swipe in swipe slot.
- e-RIPTIKs—$17.50. 10 one-way e-tickets, includes 1 transfer per trip on request. Valid for all RIPTA services. Insert in slot with blue arrow. On sale at Kennedy Plaza, Shaw’s, Save-A-Lot on Branch Avenue at route 146 and Stop & Shop.
- To use the RIPTIK, insert it into the slot with blue arrow. It will pop back up with the transfer time printed on the back. To use a transfer, swipe it in the swipe slot.

- 15-RIDE PASS—$23 for 15 rides, includes transfers. Valid on RIPTA buses & trolleys only. Insert in slot with blue arrow. On sale at Kennedy Plaza, Eastside Marketplace, Shaw’s, Save-A-Lot on Branch Avenue at route 146 and Stop & Shop.
The e-Monthly Pass
- E-Monthly Pass--$55
- Good for unlimited, statewide travel on RIPTA buses, trolleys and Flex Service for the month and year indicated on the pass
- On sale at Kennedy Plaza, Shaw’s, Save-A-Lot on Branch Avenue at route 146 and Stop & Shop supermarkets
Bus Pass Program for Seniors and People with Disabilities
- $5 for seniors
- $2 for individuals with disabilities
- On-time (only) renewals are issued a smart card and directions
