RIPTA’s Bus Cards Issued to Individuals with Disabilities and Seniors Fee Increase Takes Effect Friday, January 1, 2010

December 18, 2009 - PROVIDENCE, RI... The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) implemented a new policy for the Bus Card Program, which the Authority provides for individuals with disabilities and seniors, on Sunday, February 1, 2009. The new policy: increased the cost of the bus card issued to participants in the program; extended the validity of the cards issued to people with disabilities to five (5) years; and changed the replacement card policy by increasing the cost of replacement cards. The Bus Card fee increases were approved by the RIPTA Board of Directors at the January 26, 2009 board meeting, after the Authority held a public hearing on December 17, 2008. The first increase will take effect on January 1, 2010.

Effective January 1, 2010, the Bus Card Fee is $13.75, and will increase $3.75 each calendar year until January 2013. At that time, the Bus Card fee will be $25.00 for new Bus Cards and renewals and will remain $25.00 thereafter.
Bus Cards are valid for 5 years from original issue or renewal date.
