Commuter Checks
With RIPTA's new Commuter Check program, you can give your employees up to $100 a month in TAX-FREE BENEFITS to commute to work by public transit or vanpool.
Employers can either purchase Commuter Check vouchers and give them to their employees who can apply the value toward the purchase of RIPTIKS, monthly passes or vanpool fares. Or, employers may set aside pre-tax dollars for the purchase of Commuter Check vouchers.
Commuter Checks qualify as tax deductible business expense and are free of payroll taxes.
Commuter Check is part of RIPTA's Commuter Resource RI program, which offers employees CUSTOMIZED COMMUTING OPTIONS throughout Rhode Island based on where they live and work, and their schedules. Ridesharing options include carpooling, RIPTA buses, Park n' Rides and vanpooling. Plus, a guaranteed ride home if your employees miss their regularly scheduled carpool ride.
