With stops at Conley's Wharf (Providence Piers located at 180 Allens Ave.) and Newport's Perrotti Park, the RIPTA ferry is a relaxing travel option for tourists and area residents alike. Connecting two of Rhode Island's most exciting cities, the Providence/ Newport Ferry runs daily from May 16 through October 16. Driving Directions to Conley's Wharf (180 Allens Ave.)
Directions to the ferry from 95 South: Take exit 18 (Thurbers Avenue) and bear to your left, at the traffic light take a left onto Allens Avenue. The Providence Piers (Dock Conley located at 180 Allens Ave.) ferry dock will be on your right hand side – a half mile down Allens Avenue.
Directions to the ferry from 95 North: Take exit 18 (Thurbers Avenue) and bear to your right at the traffic light, then take a left onto Allens Avenue. The Providence Piers (Dock Conley located at 180 Allens Ave.) ferry dock will be on your right hand side – a half mile down Allens Avenue.
Land Connections for Ferry Riders
Providence:
To reach the Conley's Wharf (Providence Piers located at 180 Allens Ave.), take a trolley marked “Ferry” from Kennedy Plaza. Trolleys to the ferry dock leave Kennedy Plaza 25 minutes prior to each ferry departure.
RIPTA trolleys marked “Kennedy Plaza” meet the ferry at Conley's Wharf (Providence Piers located at 180 Allens Ave.) 10 minutes after the boat docks and will take you to downtown Providence.
Newport:
RIPTA trolleys and buses depart regularly from the Gateway Visitors Center just down the street from the Perrotti Park ferry dock.
In Newport, the ferry docks at Perrotti Park which is just a short walk from the Gateway Visitors Center (adjacent to the Marriott Hotel). At the Gateway, you can take a bus or a trolley to your destination in Newport.
RIPTA's buses and trolleys in Newport can take you to the mansions, Cliff Walk, shopping centers and more. The one-way fare is $1.75. A 24-hour pass costs $5.00 (for 1 person) and is available on RIPTA buses and trolleys.
You can park your car in Newport all day for just $2.00 at the Gateway Visitors Center when you ride RIPTA. Just ask your RIPTA bus or trolley driver for a "RIPTA Rider Receipt".
The ferry is a demonstration project funded by the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration in conjunction with the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Program and the RI Department of Transportation.
