Eddy Street Bridge Construction Detour

UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, construction has been postponed to Friday, May 16, 2025 at 8 PM.

Route 1 Southbound will be on detour starting on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 8 PM. This detour will last until Fall 2028.

Southbound trips will travel the regular route to Eddy St. and Thurbers Ave., turn left onto Thurbers Ave., right onto Allens Ave., right onto Ernest St., left onto Eddy St. and resume the regular route.

These Southbound bus stops will not be in service as a result:

• Eddy & Thurbers (Before Applegate) – Stop ID: 12500
• Eddy After Pavilion – Stop ID: 12385

Northbound trips will remain on the regular route.

RIPTA to Detour Six Routes on Saturday, May 24, 2025, and Sunday, May 25, 2025, to Accommodate Brown University’s Commencement

Providence, Rhode Island – The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that Routes 1, 33, 34, 35, 60, and 78 will be detoured on Saturday, May 24 from 9:30am to 8pm and on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 6am to 6pm to accommodate Brown University’s Commencement. The East Side Tunnel will be closed on both days during this time.

The following detours are in effect on Saturday, May 24 from 9:30am to 8pm and on Sunday, May 25 from 6am to 6pm:

Route 1 (Eddy/Hope/Benefit)

Northbound trips will travel regular route to Kennedy Plaza Bus Stop I, turn left onto Exchange St., right onto Stillman St., right onto Park Row, left onto North Main St., right onto Olney St., left onto Hope St. and then resume regular route.

Southbound trips will travel regular route to Hope St. and Doyle Ave., turn right onto Doyle Ave., left onto North Main St. through to Canal St., right onto Steeple St., left onto Memorial Blvd., right onto Fulton Street and then resume regular route.

Route 33 (Riverside)

Route 34 (East Providence/Seekonk Square)

Route 35 (Rumford/Newport Ave.)

Route 78 (Beverage Hill Ave./East Providence)

Inbound trips will travel regular route to Angell St., turn right onto Hope St., left onto Doyle, left onto North Main St., right onto Steeple St. and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel regular route to Washington St., turn left onto Exchange St., right onto Stillman St., right onto Park Row, left onto North Main St., right onto Olney St., right onto Hope St. through to Thayer St., left onto Waterman St. and then resume regular route.

Route 60 (Providence/Newport)

Inbound trips will travel regular route to I-195W, turn right onto I-95N, right at the Downtown Exit, right onto Francis St. through to Dorrance St., and then left onto Washington St. to Kennedy Plaza.

Outbound trips are on regular route.

Routes 3, 4, 51, 54, 58, 66, 72, and the R-Line will be on detour on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM due to construction at Exchange St. between Stillman St. and Park Row West. These bus stops will not be in service during this time:

• Inbound – Providence Station (Park Row W Before Exchange) – Stop ID: 72015
• Outbound – Providence Station (Exchange before Park Row W) – Stop ID: 72010

For Inbound service on Routes 51, 54, 58, 72, and the R-Line, please use the temporary stop at 100 Exchange St. (after Stillman St. and before the Exchange St. Bridge).

For Outbound service on Routes 51, 54, 58, 72, and the R-Line, please use the temporary stop opposite 100 Exchange St. (near the parking lot).

Routes 3, 4, and 66 Northbound will also terminate at this temporary stop opposite 100 Exchange St. before resuming service as a Southbound trip.

North Providence Memorial Day Parade – Monday, May 26

Route 50 will be detoured from 11am to 3pm to accommodate the North Providence Memorial Day Parade.

Inbound trips will travel regular route to Douglas Pike and Twin River Road, left onto Twin River Road, right onto the Rte. 146 South onramp, right at the Mineral Spring Exit, right onto Mineral Spring Ave., left onto Douglas Ave. and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel regular route to the intersection of Douglas and Mineral Spring Avenues, right onto Mineral Spring Ave., left onto Charles St., right onto Rte. 146 North, right at the Twin River Road Exit, left onto Twin River Road, right onto Douglas Pike and then resume regular route.

Route 66 will be on detour starting on Friday, May 2, 2025 until further notice. The I-95 North on-ramp from East Ave. will be closed to traffic. After stopping at URI Knight Campus, Inbound trips will continue on East Ave. to Main Ave., continue on Main Ave. to Post Rd., turn left onto Post Rd., continue to T.F. Green Airport and then resume the regular route. Outbound is on the regular route.

Federal Hill Saint Joseph Festival Detour

Route 92 will be on detour from Friday, June 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM through Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 11:00 PM.

Westbound trips will travel the regular route to Service Rd. 7, turn left onto Service Rd. 7, right onto Broadway, right onto Harris Ave., left onto Atwells Ave. and resume the regular route.

Eastbound trips will travel the regular route to Atwells Ave. and Harris Ave., turn right onto Harris Ave., left onto Broadway and resume the regular route.

Passengers can use any of the bus stops on Broadway between Harris Ave. and Service Rd. 7 for Route 92 service during this time.
