RIPTA Temporary Bus Stops for FirstWorks Festival

Providence, Rhode Island, September 13, 2012… The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will relocate bus stops in Kennedy Plaza and detour thirty-two bus routes in the Providence area on Saturday, September 29, 2012 in order to accommodate the FirstWorks Festival: On The Plaza.   The detours will be in effect from the first trip of the day until the last trip of the day.  Bus stops will be temporarily relocated during this time.  Fulton and Washington Streets will be closed during the Festival. 

KENNEDY PLAZA

Ticketing and other passenger amenities will retain regular business hours inside the Kennedy Plaza Terminal during the FirstWorks Festival.  Bus stops in Kennedy Plaza will be relocated to Exchange Terrace, Sabin Street, Exchange Street, Fountain Street, and Steeple Street.  Park N’ Ride stops will also be relocated to Exchange Terrace. 

RIPTA employees and FirstWorks Festival volunteers will be in Kennedy Plaza and in the area of the temporary stops to answer questions and assist passengers on Saturday, September 29, 2012.  RIPTA’s maintenance personnel will clean and maintain all temporary bus stop locations.  RIPTA will distribute a detailed map of the interim bus and trolley stops to help passengers find their relocated stops.

Inbound Trips leaving from Eagle Square to Kennedy Plaza will travel theregular route to the corner of Fountain and Dorrance Streets, and then take a left onto Sabin Street to the temporary bus stop.  Passengers will be picked off and dropped off at the Convention Center.

Outbound Trips to Eagle Square will leave the Convention Center on Sabin Street via a right onto Atwells Avenue and then resume regular route.

Route 92 (Federal Hill/East Side) EAST

Inbound Trips leaving from East Side Market to Kennedy Plaza will travel the regular route to Exchange Terrace, and then continue on Sabin Street to the temporary bus stop.

Outbound Trips to East Side Market will leave via Sabin Street, left onto Empire Street, left onto Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard and then resume regular route.

Route 99 (North Main/Pawtucket)

Inbound Trips will travel theregular route to the intersection of Steeple Street and Memorial Boulevard, and then continue on Steeple Street through to Exchange Terrace through to Sabin Street, to the temporary stop.

Outbound Trips will travel theregular route to Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, and then resume regular route.
