The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that due to the effects of Winter Storm Hercules, five bus routes will be on detour starting today until further notice.
The following routes are on detour today, Sunday, January 5, 2013 until further notice:
Route 6: Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Public Street and then continue straight on Prairie Avenue to the end of the line.
Outbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Pearl Street, and then continue straight on Prairie Avenue to the end of the line.
Note: This detour will remain in effect through April 2014.
Route 29: Service to Trudeau Center suspended.
Route 42: Due to poor snow removal and vehicles parked on both sides of the street, Thayer Street is too narrow to service. Inbound trips will continue on Hope Street, right onto Angell Street, left onto Thayer Street and then resume regular route.
Route 49: Service to Miriam Hospital suspended.
8:45am Outbound and 9:10am Inbound trips are suspended.
Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Camp Street, left onto Rochambeau Street, right onto North Main Street, and then resume regular route. Inbound trips will travel the regular route to North Main Street, left onto North Main Street, right onto Rochambeau Street, and then resume regular route.
Route 64: Service to Rte. 1A and 138 Park-N-Ride and Job Lot Plaza has been reinstated.Inbound and Outbound trips will not travel on 2nd and 3rd Streets. Service to Bay Campus will turn around at the Visitors Center; service will not loop around campus.
As the winter storm continues to move toward New England, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is working closely with emergency officials to prepare for possible service impacts caused by winter conditions. RIPTA’s emergency preparedness plan focuses first on safety and second on attempting to accommodate as many passengers as possible traveling within Rhode Island. Throughout the winter storm later tonight and tomorrow, RIPTA passengers should anticipate delays on all routes due to the inclement weather.
