Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour twenty bus routes in the Providence area to accommodate the Day of Portugal Parade.  The East Approach Trolley Pavilion will be closed to traffic on Sunday, June 8, 2014; routes 6 and 92 will be detoured all day and night.  Routes  27, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 50, 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 60, 66, 72, 78, and 99 will be detoured beginning at 2:30pm until 3:30pm on Sunday, June 8, 2014.

The following detours will be in effect on Sunday, June 8. 2014:

Route 6 (Prairie/RW Zoo):                                                                                                        
Inbound trips will travel the regular Route to Kennedy Plaza. Passengers will board and alight during this time at Bus Stop M.

Outbound trips will leave Bus Stop M via Washington Street, then take a right onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 27 (Broadway/Manton Ave.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route.

Outbound trips will leave Bus Stop P via Washington Street, then take a right onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Empire Street, right onto Fountain Street, left onto Sabin Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 28 (Broadway/Hartford Ave):

Please refer to the Route 27 (Broadway/Manton Ave.) detour.

Route 30 (Arlington/Oaklawn):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the Dean Street Exit, take a right onto the Dean Street Exit through to West Exchange Street, right onto Sabin Street, left onto Mathewson Street, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Memorial Street, right onto Fulton Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Dorrance Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Empire Street, right onto Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, left onto the Rte. 10 on-ramp, and then resume regular route.

Route 32 (East Providence/Wampanoag):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Steeple Street and Memorial Boulevard, left onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Washington Street, and then travel to the appropriate bus stop. 

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Routes 33 (Riverside):

Please refer to the Route 32 (East Providence/Wampanoag) detour.

Routes 34 (East Providence):

Please refer to the Route 32 (East Providence/Wampanoag) detour.

Route 35 (Rumford/Newport Ave.):

Please refer to the Route 32 (East Providence/Wampanoag) detour.

Route 50 (Douglas Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of State and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Park Street, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Francis Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Washington Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Empire Street, right onto Fountain, Street, left onto Francis Street, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Park Street, right onto Smith Street and then resume regular route. 

Route 52 (Branch Ave.):

Leaves from Bus Stop P

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Charles and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Park Street, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Francis Street, left into Kennedy Plaza to Bus Stop P.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket):

Leaves from Bus Stop L

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Charles and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Park Street, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Francis Street, left into Kennedy Plaza to Bus Stop L.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 55 (Admiral Street/Providence College):

Please refer to the Route 50 (Douglas Avenue) detour.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Smith and Park Streets, right onto Park Street, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Francis Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Washington Street, then take a right onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Empire Street, right onto Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Park Street, left onto Smith Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 57 (Smith Street):

Please refer to the Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue) detour.

Route 60 (Providence/Newport):

Leaves from Bus Stop P

Inbound trips into downtown Providence will travel regular route on I-195 West to I-95 North, take a right off the Exit 22 off-ramp, right onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop P.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 66 (URI/Galilee):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Dorrance Street, take a right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Empire Street, right onto Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 South on-ramp, and then resume regular route.

Route 72 (Weeden/Central Falls):

Please refer to the Route 54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket) detour.

Route 78 (Beverage Hill):

Please refer to the Route 34 (East Providence) detour.

Route 92 Federal Hill/East Side WEST:

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Kennedy Plaza to Bus Stop M.

Outbound trips to Eagle Square will leave via Washington Street, then take a right onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Empire Street, right onto Fountain Street, left onto Sabin Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 92 Federal Hill/East Side EAST:

Inbound trips leaving from East Side Market to Kennedy Plaza will travel the regular route to the intersection of Steeple Street and Memorial Boulevard, left onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Washington Street and then travel to Bus Stop M.

Outbound trips to East Side Market will leave via Washington Street through to the East Side Tunnel and then resume regular route.

Route 99 (Providence/Pawtucket):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Charles and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Park Place, left onto Hayes Street, right onto Francis Street, left onto Washington Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard, right onto Fulton Street, and then continue to Bus Stop F.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.
