The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour twenty-five bus routes in the Providence area on Sunday, May 5, 2019 in order to accommodate the Providence Rhode Races.   Routes 1, 3, 6, 17, 19, 21, 30, 31, 33, 34, 50, 51, 54, 55, 56, 72, 78, 92 and the R-Line will be detoured from the first trip of the day until 3pm.   

Route 35 will be detoured from the first trip of the day until 4pm.  Routes 27, 28, 57, 60, and 66 will be detoured from the first trip of the day until 6pm.  Bus stops W, V, and Y will be temporarily relocated during this time.  East Approach, Exchange Terrace and Memorial Boulevard will be closed for the duration of the race.

The following bus stops will be temporarily relocated:

The following routes will detour from the first trip of the day:

Route 1 (Eddy/Hope/Benefit):

Southbound trips from Pawtucketwill travel the regular route to the East Side Tunnel and North Main Street, right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street through to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop D. Trips will then travel the regular route.

Northbound trips will travel the regular route to Bus Stop I.  Trips will then turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street, right onto Park Row, right onto Canal Street, left onto Washington Street through to the East Side Tunnel, resume regular route to Hope Street and Pidge Avenue, left onto Pidge Avenue, right onto Pawtucket Avenue through to George Street and then resume regular route.

Route 3 (Warwick Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Memorial Boulevard and Dorrance Street, left onto Dorrance Street, right onto Washington Street, right onto  Street, and then right onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop B.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 6 (Prairie Ave./RWP Zoo):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to East Franklin and Broad Streets, right onto Broad Street, continue to Weybosset Street through to Lower Weybosset to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop C.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Washington and Dorrance Streets, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street through to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop B.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 19 (Plainfield/Westminster):

Please refer to the Route 17 (Dyer/Pocasset) detour.

Route 21 (Reservoir Ave.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Rte. 10 North, right at the Dean Street Exit, right onto Dean Street, left onto Atwells Avenue, left onto Broadway, right onto Empire Street, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street through to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop C.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 27 (Broadway/Manton Ave.) DETOUR IN EFFECT UNTIL 6PM:

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Fountain and DorranceStreets, turn left onto Washington Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Fountain Street to the temporary bus stop located next to the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center.

Outbound trips will leave temporary Bus Stop W via a right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Sabin Street and then resume regular route.

Route 28 (Broadway/Hartford Ave) DETOUR IN EFFECT UNTIL 6PM:

Please refer to the Route 27 (Broadway/Manton Ave.) detour.

Route 30 (Arlington/Oaklawn):

Inbound trips will travel regular route to the Dean Street Exit, right onto Dean Street, left onto Atwells Avenue, left onto Broadway, right onto Empire Street, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, and then left into Kennedy Plaza to Bus Stop C.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Dorrance Street, continue onto Francis Street, left onto the Rte. 10 on-ramp, and then resume regular route.

Route 31 (Cranston St.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Washington Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street through to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop B.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route 33 (Riverside):

Inbound trips will travel regular route to Taunton Avenue to the I-195 West on-ramp, continue onto I-95 North, take a right at the Broadway Exit, right onto Broadway, right onto Empire Street, and then left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto I-95 South through to I-195 East, right at the Taunton Avenue Exit and then resume regular route.

Route 34 (East Providence):

Inbound trips will travel regular route to Warren Avenue, turn right onto I-195 West to I-95 North, right at the Downtown Exit, right onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound trips will leave Bus Stop H, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, left onto I-95 South through to I-195 East, right at the Warren Avenue Exit, and then resume regular route.

Route 35 (Rumford/Newport Ave.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the I-195 West to I-95 North, right at the Broadway Exit, right onto Broadway, right onto Empire Street, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound tripswill turn right onto Exchange Street, continue onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 South on-ramp to I-195 East, right at the Taunton Avenue Exit, and then resume regular route.

Route 50 (Douglas Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route.

Outbound trips will leave via a right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 51 (Charles Street):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Charles Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop G.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the Atwells Avenue Exit, left onto Atwells Avenue, left onto Broadway, right onto Empire Street, right onto Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop G.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, left onto the I-95 North onramp through to I-95 North, and then resume regular route.

Route 55 (Admiral Street/Providence College):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Charles Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street, continue onto Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop G.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street, and then resume regular route.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, and then right onto Sabin Street to temporary Bus Stop V.

Outbound trips will leave via a left onto Empire Street, left onto Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street and then resume regular route.

Route 57 (Smith Street) DETOUR IN EFFECT UNTIL 6PM:

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Francis and Dorrance Streets, left onto Washington Street, right onto Exchange Street, and then right onto Fulton Street to temporary Bus Stop V next to the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center.

Outbound trips will leave temporary Bus Stop V via a right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street and then resume regular route.

Route 60 (Providence/Newport) DETOUR IN EFFECT UNTIL 6PM:

Inbound trips will travel regular route on I-195 West to I-95 North, take a right off the Exit 22 off-ramp, through to Francis Street, and then right onto Washington Street to temporary Bus Stop Y next to the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center. 

Outbound trips will leave temporary Bus Stop Y via a right onto Exchange Street, turn right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto the I-95 North on-ramp to I-195 East, and then resume regular route.

Route 66 (URI/Galilee) DETOUR UNTIL 6PM:

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Francis Street and then turn left onto Washington Street to temporary Bus Stop Y next to the Kennedy Plaza Intermodal Transportation Center.

Outbound trips will leave temporary Bus Stop Y via a right tonto Exchange Street, turn right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto I-95 South, and then resume regular route.

Route 72 (Weeden/Central Falls):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Charles and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop G.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street and then resume regular route.

Route 78 (Beverage Hill):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Taunton Avenue through to I-195 West to I-95 North, right at the Broadway Exit, right onto Empire Street, left onto Fountain Street, right onto Dorrance Street, and then left onto Washington Street to Bus Stop H.

Outbound trips will turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, left onto I-95 South through to I-195 East, left at the Taunton Avenue Exit and then resume regular route.

Route 92 (Federal Hill/East Side) EAST:

Inbound trips leaving from Rhode Island College to East Side Market will travel the regular route to Bus Stop J, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street through to Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, right onto Canal Street, left onto Washington Street into the East Side Tunnel, right onto Thayer Street, left onto Waterman Street, right onto Brook Street and then left onto Wickenden Street. Trips will terminate at Fox Point Manor. Trips will not service East Side Market.

Route 92 (Federal Hill/East Side) WEST:

Inbound trips leaving from Fox Point Manor to Kennedy Plaza will travel the regular route to Ives Street, left onto Ives Street, left onto Trenton Street, left onto Governor Street, right onto Wickenden Street, right onto Brook Street, left onto Angell Street, left onto Thayer Street, right into the East Side Tunnel, right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street through to Exchange Street, left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop D and then resume regular route to Rhode Island College.

R-Line (Broad/North Main):

Southbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of North Main and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset through to Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to Bus Stop D.

Northbound trips will travel the regular route to Bus Stop J, turn right onto Exchange Street, right onto Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, right onto Memorial Boulevard, left onto Exchange Street and then resume regular route.
