MOVING TRANSIT FORWARD IN WEST BAY, PAWTUCKET AND NEWPORT
RIPTA is implementing service changes to Routes 1, 13, 29, 49, 71, 72, 73, 75, 76, 78, 80 and the R-Line, as well as adding three new routes. These service changes, listed below, will be implemented over the next year. In addition to realigning service to accommodate the new Pawtucket-Central Falls Transit Center, these changes are part of a broader, long-range plan to improve service in West Bay and South County communities. As part of the Transit Master Plan (TMP), the first four years of the plan include increasing current services, service span and expanding service into new areas. These service improvements, specific to TMP goals, are targeted to improve service utilizing existing vehicle resources and to expand service where we currently have significant gaps.
RIPTA held public hearings on these changes in Warwick, West Warwick, Newport, Pawtucket and Kingston on Monday, April 4 through Thursday, April 7, 2022. Realign all service to the new Central Falls/Pawtucket Transit Center and reschedule as necessary.

Realign route to operate only between Conimicut and CCRI.
Increase span of service to 9pm on weekdays.
Increase frequency to every 60 minutes on weekdays and Saturday.
Add Sunday service.
Increase span of service on weekdays and Sundays.

This new route would provide service to CCRI Warwick and Bald Hill Rd., while also serving New England Tech, East Greenwich and terminating at Quonset Industrial Park.
Daily service with frequency every 60 minutes.
This new route would travel from CCRI to Centre of New England.
90-minute frequency on weekdays and weekends.
Eliminate route.
This new route will connect neighborhoods in northern Newport with local beaches. Trips will travel from CCRI Newport to Middletown Department of Human Services, stopping at the Newport Transportation Center and First Beach.
Increase frequency to every 25 minutes on weekdays.
Increase frequency from every 90 minutes to every 45 minutes on Sundays.

Interlining combines two or more independent routes that arrive and depart from a common terminal. A bus can arrive at a transit center as one route and after a brief layover, leave as a different route. This helps RIPTA eliminate extended periods of down time where a bus would just be parked and out of service.
Span of service is the hours of operation for a bus route, from the time of departure of the first trip of the day at the first stop, to the time of arrival of the last trip of the day at the last stop.
Frequency is how often a bus picks up passengers at a stop.
