Route 40 will be on detour from 12pm to 8pm on Monday, March 17, 2025, for the McBride’s Pub St. Patrick’s Day Block Party. Inbound trips will travel regular route.

Outbound trips will travel regular route to Waterman St. and Wayland Square, continue on Waterman St., turn left onto Butler Ave., left onto South Angell St. through to Angell St., right onto Elmgrove Ave. and then resume regular route.

RIPTA To Detour Three Bus Routes in Providence On Saturday, March 8, 2025, to Accommodate St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festivities

Detours will occur between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm

Providence, Rhode Island…The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour Routes 50, 56, and 57 in Providence on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The three routes will be on detour from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm to accommodate the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. After that, Routes 56 and 57 will be on an alternate detour from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm to accommodate a partial closing of Smith Street.

The following detours will be in effect on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 7 AM to 3 PM.

Route 50 (Douglas Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Douglas Avenue and Orms Street, turn left onto Orms Street, right onto Charles Street through to Canal Street, right onto Steeple Street to Exchange Terrace, left onto Dorrance Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Street, left onto Memorial Boulevard onto I-95 North, right at the Orms Street Exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Douglas Avenue and then resume the regular route.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel regular route to the intersection of Chalkstone Avenue and Raymond Street, turn right on Raymond Street, continue onto Pleasant Valley Parkway to Dean Street, left on Atwells Avenue, left on Broadway, left on Fountain Street, right on Dorrance Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Terrace, continue onto Sabin Street, turn right on West Exchange, right on Dean Street through to Pleasant Valley Parkway to Raymond Street, left on Chalkstone Avenue, and then resume regular route.

Route 57 (Smith Street):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Smith and Eaton Streets, turn left onto Eaton Street, right onto Douglas Avenue, left onto the I-95 South on-ramp, right at the Atwells Avenue Exit, left onto Atwells Avenue to LaSalle Square, left onto Fountain Street, and then right onto Dorrance to the regular bus stop in Kennedy Plaza. 

Outbound trips will leave Kennedy Plaza via a left onto Exchange Terrace, turn right onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 North on-ramp, right at the Orms Street Exit, right onto Orms Street, right onto Douglas Avenue, left onto Eaton Street, right onto Smith Street, and then resume regular route.

The following detours will be in effect from 3 PM to 6 PM:

Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel regular route to the intersection of Chalkstone Avenue and Smith Street, continue on Chalkstone Avenue, turn right on Douglas Avenue, left on Orms Street, right on State Street, cross Smith Street to Gaspee Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel regular route to Smith and Park Streets, turn right on Park Street, left on Orms Street, right on Douglas Avenue, left on Chalkstone Boulevard, and then resume regular route.

Route 57 (Smith Street):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Smith Street and Chalkstone Avenue, turn left on Chalkstone Avenue, right on Douglas Avenue, left on Orms Street, right on State Street, cross  Smith Street to Gaspee Street, and then resume regular route.

Outbound trips will travel regular route to Smith and Park Streets, turn right on Park Street, left on Orms Street, right on Douglas Avenue, left on Chalkstone Avenue, right on Smith Street and then resume regular route.
