Press Releases

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour eighteen bus routes in the Providence area on Sunday, May 6, 2012 in order to accommodate the Cox Providence Rhode Races.   The detours will be in effect from the first trip of the day until 3:30pm.  Bus stops will be temporarily relocated during this time.  Exchange Terrace and Memorial Boulevard will be closed for the duration of the race.

 The following bus stops will be temporarily relocated: 

Routes will detour from the first trip of the day until 2:00pm:

Route #3 (Warwick Avenue):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to the “G” bus stop.

Outbound tripswill travel the regular route.

Route #6 (Prairie Ave./RWP Zoo):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Washington and Dorrance Streets, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to the “F” bus stop.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fulton Street, take a right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, and then resume regular route.

Route #11 (Broad Street):

Inbound tripswill travel the regular route to the intersection of Washington and Dorrance Streets, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street and then left to the “F” bus stop.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route.

Route #27 (Broadway/Manton Ave.) and Route #28 (Broadway/Hartford Ave):

Inbound trips into downtown Providence will travel the regular route to the intersection of Fountain and Francis Streets and then left onto Sabin Street. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off at the Convention Center.  

Outbound trips leaving downtown Providence will leave Sabin Street and then resume regular route. 

Route #33 (Riverside):

Inbound trips into downtown Providence will travel regular route on I-195 West to I-95 North, take a right off the Exit 22 off-ramp, right onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street, and then left onto Fulton Street to the “G” bus stop.

Outbound tripswill leave downtown Providence via Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, and then left onto Service Road to I-195 East.

Inbound trips into downtown Providence will travel regular route on I-195 West to I-95 North, take a right off the Exit 22 off-ramp, right onto Francis Street, right onto Sabin Street, and then left onto Mathewson Street.  Passengers will be picked off and dropped off on Fountain Street.

Outbound tripswill leave downtown Providence via Fountain Street, left onto Sabin Street, bear right onto West Exchange to the 6-10 Connector on-ramp, right onto I-95 South, right onto I-195 East and then resume regular route.

Route #35 (Rumford/Newport Ave.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the East Side Tunnel and North Main Street, right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Sabin Street, left onto Mathewson Street. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Fountain Street.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fountain Street, take a left onto Francis Street, left onto the I-95 South on-ramp to I-195 East, take the Broadway exit, left onto Warren Avenue, left onto Broadway through to North Broadway, and then resume regular route.

Route #42 (Hope Street):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to Hope and Thayer Streets, continue on Hope Street, take a right onto Angell Street, left onto Thayer Street, right into the East Side Tunnel to North Main Street, right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street to the regular stop.

Outbound trips will leave the “H” bus stop via Fulton Street, take a right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Service Road, right onto Broadway to Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, right onto Canal Street through to Washington Street, left on Washington Street to the East Side Tunnel and then resume regular route.

Route #50 (Douglas Avenue):

Inbound tripswill travel the regular route to the intersection of Francis and Sabin Streets and then take a right onto Sabin Street. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off at the Convention Center.

Route #50 (Douglas Avenue) continued:

Outbound trips will leave downtown Providence via Sabin Street, left onto Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, and then resume regular route.

Route #52 (Branch Ave.):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of North Main and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Sabin Street, and then left onto Mathewson Street. Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Fountain Street.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via a left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto North Main Street, and then resume regular route.

Route #54 (Lincoln/Woonsocket):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Canal and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Sabin Street, and then left onto Mathewson Street.  Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Fountain Street.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fountain Street, take a left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto North Main Street and then resume regular route.

Route #55 (Admiral Street/Providence College):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Francis and Sabin Streets, and then right onto Sabin Street.  Passengers will be picked up and dropped off at the Convention Center.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Sabin Street, take a right onto Atwells Avenue, right onto the I-95 North on-ramp, take the State House exit, left onto Orms Street, and then resume regular route.

Route #56 (Chalkstone Avenue) and Route #57 (Smith Street):

Inbound tripswill travel the regular route to Francis Street to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street to the regular bus stop.

Outbound tripswill leave Providence via Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street and then resume regular route.  

#60 (Providence/Newport):

Inbound trips into downtown Providence will travel regular route on I-195 West to I-95 North, take a right off the Exit 22 off-ramp, right onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street, left onto Fulton Street to the “D” bus stop.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fulton Street, take a right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, and then left onto Service Road to I-195 East.

Route #66 (URI/Galilee):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Dorrance and lower Weybosset Streets, left onto Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street, left onto Fulton Street to the regular bus stop.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, and then left onto Service Road to I-95 North.

Route #72 (Weeden/Central Falls):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Canal and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street and then left onto Fulton Street to the “D” bus stop.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fulton Street, take a right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Service Road, right onto Broadway through to Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto North Main Street, and then resume regular route.

Route #78 (Beverage Hill):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the corner of the East Side Tunnel and North Main Street, right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Sabin Street, left onto Mathewson Street, and then left onto Fountain Street to the temporary bus stop.

Outbound trips will leave via Fountain Street, take a left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, right onto Canal Street through to Washington Street, left onto Washington Street to the East Side Tunnel and then resume regular route.

Route #92 Federal Hill/East Side WEST

Inbound trips leaving from Eagle Square to Kennedy Plaza will travel the regular route to the corner of Fountain and Dorrance Streets, and then take a left onto Sabin Street.  Passengers will be picked off and dropped off at the Convention Center.

Outbound trips to Eagle Square will leave the Convention Center on Sabin Street via a right onto Atwells Avenue and then resume regular route.

Route #92 Federal Hill/East Side EAST

Inbound trips leaving from East Side Market to Kennedy Plaza will travel the regular route to the East Side Tunnel and North Main Street, right onto North Main Street, left onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street, and then right onto Sabin Street to the temporary bus stop.

Outbound trips to East Side Market will leave via Sabin Street, left onto Founatin Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, right onto Canal Steet, left onto Washington Street through to the East Side Tunnel and then resume regular route.

Route #99 (Providence/Pawtucket):

Inbound trips will travel the regular route to the intersection of Canal and Smith Streets, right onto Smith Street, left onto Gaspee Street, left onto Francis Street through to Dorrance Street, left onto lower Weybosset Street, left onto Exchange Street, and then left to the “F” bus stop.

Outbound trips will leave Providence via Fulton Street, right onto Dorrance Street, left onto Washington Street, right onto Service Road, right onto Broadway through to Fountain Street, left onto Francis Street, right onto Gaspee Street, right onto Smith Street, left onto North Main Street, and then resume regular route.
