Passengers Urged to Monitor Service Alerts 

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is advising passengers to monitor service alerts on its website and social media accounts as evening snow is causing slippery conditions and systemwide delays.  Currently eight routes are on detour and riders can expect some delays on all routes due to weather conditions.  Routes 21, 27, 29, 32, 55, 56, 66, and 87 are on detour, and service to the Rte. 1 and 1A Park-N-Ride has been suspended. Passengers are advised to use caution at bus stops due to decreased visibility and slippery conditions. 

Service information will be available at https://www.ripta.com/alerts, as RIPTA’s social media accounts (Facebook @RideRIPTA ,Twitter @RIPTA_RI) and on Transit app. Riders can also sign up to receive email service alerts for the specific routes they ride. To sign up for route-specific email alerts, visit https://www.ripta.com/schedules.  Click on the route you would like to receive alerts for and then click on “Receive Updates for This Schedule.” Enter your email address in the form that pops up and then click “Subscribe.”   You will now receive service information regarding that bus route.

Below are the current detours:

Route 21 (Reservoir/Garden City):

Service to CCRI and Rhode Island Mall suspended. Service will terminate at the Warwick Mall.

Route 27 (Broadway/Manton):

Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.

Route 29 (Cowesset/Kent County):

No bus service on Highland Avenue. Eastbound and Westbound trips will travel the regular route to Main Street, continue on Main Street, turn right onto Pleasant Street, left onto Highland Avenue, left onto Main Street, and then resume regular route.

Service to CCRI suspended. Westbound trips will travel the regular route to Toll Gate Road, continue on Toll Gate Road, turn right onto Rte. 2 to the Rhode Island Mall, and then resume regular route. Reverse on Eastbound.

Route 32 (East Providence/Wampanoag):

Service to Martin Street Hill suspended.

Outbound trips will travel the regular route to Warren Avenue, continue on Warren Avenue, right onto Pawtucket Avenue, and then resume regular route. Reverse on Inbound.

Route 55 (Admiral/Providence College):

Service to Rhode Island College suspended; buses will terminate at Shaw’s Plaza.

Service to Fatima Hospital suspended.

Service to Providence College suspended.

Route 56 (Chalkstone Avenue):

Service to VA Hospital and Stop & Shop suspended.

Trips will terminate at the Chalkstone Avenue and Sisson Street.

Route 66 (URI/Galilee):

Service to CCRI suspended. Trips will stay on I-95.

Route 87 (Fairmount/Walnut Hill):

Service to Fairmont suspended. Service to Walnut Hill will run as scheduled.

Service to Morin Heights suspended.

Westbound trips will travel regular route to Cass and Sweet Avenues, continue on Cass Avenue, left onto Mendon Road, right onto Diamond Hill Road, and then resume regular route. Reverse on Eastbound.
