UPDATED 8:15AM- RIPTA to Detour Seven Routes Due to Winter Weather Conditions on Wednesday, January 28, 2026
Providence, Rhode Island — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced that seven routes are on detour today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, due to winter weather conditions. Routes 1, 6, 20, 22, 27, 64, and 68 are currently on detour.
Riders may expect some delays on all routes due to winter weather effects and are advised to use extreme caution at bus stops due to slippery conditions.
The following routes are on detour:
Routes 6, 20, and 22 Inbound trips will travel regular route to Broad and Empire Streets, turn left onto Empire St., right onto Fountain St. and then proceed to Kennedy Plaza.
Route 1 (Eddy/Hope/Benefit):
Inbound trips will travel regular route to Hope and Olney Streets, turn right onto Olney Street, right onto North Main Street, loop around to North Main Street, continue onto Canal Street, turn right onto Steeple Street to regular route. Outbound is on regular route.
Route 6 (Prairie/Roger Williams Park Zoo):
Service to Colony House suspended.
Route 27 (Broadway/Manton):
Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.
Route 64 (Newport/URI Kingston):
Inbound and Outbound trips will use Farewell Street to America’s Cup Avenue to the Newport Transportation Center.
Route 68 (CCRI NPT/Mem. Blvd./First Beach:
Inbound and Outbound trips will use Farewell Street to America’s Cup Avenue to the Newport Transportation Center.
