RIPTA to Detour Seventeen Routes Due to Winter Weather Conditions on Thursday, January 29, 2026

 

Providence, Rhode Island — The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced that seventeen routes are on detour today, Thursday, January 29, 2026, due to winter weather conditions. Routes 1, 3, 4, 6, 20, 22, 27, 32, 33, 34, 40, 51, 54, 58, 60, 61, and 72 are currently on detour.

 

Riders may expect some delays on all routes due to weather conditions and are advised to use extreme caution at bus stops due to decreased visibility and slippery conditions.

 

The following routes are on detour:

 

Routes 6, 20, and 22 Inbound trips will travel regular route to Broad and Empire Streets, turn left onto Empire St., right onto Fountain St. and then proceed to Kennedy Plaza. 

 

Routes 1, 3, 4, 51, 54, 58 and 72 will not serve Lower Weybosset. Outbound trips will travel regular route to Dyer St., continue through to Memorial Blvd., turn left on Steeple Street, left on Exchange Terrace, left on Dorrance Street, left on Washington Street, then resume regular route. Inbound is on regular route.

 

Routes 32, 33, 34, 40, 61 will not serve the East Side Tunnel.

 

Routes 32, 33, 34 60, 61 Inbound trips will continue on Angell Street into the city.

 

Route 1 (Eddy/Hope/Benefit)

Service to Thayer Street suspended.

 

Route 6 (Prairie/Roger Williams Park Zoo):

Service to Colony House suspended.

 

Route 27 (Broadway/Manton):

Service to Hillcrest Apartments suspended.
